I’m Melanie Webb and I work at the intersection of fitness, nature and technology. I’m the founder of WebbWell, creator of the innovative WebbWell App and author of Adventures in Mother Nature’s Gym.

Building Blocks of the Training Program

Our comprehensive hiking and backpacking training program includes 6-weeks of workouts built upon the foundational four pillars of movement and mindfulness:

1. Muscular Strength and Endurance

Each resistance training session is designed to develop strength and endurance with common weight and resistance equipment including dumbbells and barbells.

2. Cardiovascular Strength and Endurance

Train your heart and nervous system where they were meant to thrive–outside, in nature. Enjoy the added bonuses of mental clarity and awe by unplugging.

3. Joint Mobility and Muscular Flexibility

Challenging movements and yoga poses prepare you for the rigors of outdoor life – such as going to the bathroom, setting up a tent, and preventing a fall.

4. Rest and Recovery

Recovery is one of the most important components of any training program, and is built into Fitness for the Trails™. “Recovery is a grit skill. Train at recovery.”

Here’s a sample of what you can expect from each week training with Fitness for the Trails™. Workouts are designed to become progressively more challenging over the 6 weeks. Plan on anywhere from 60 minutes for the weekday workouts up to two hours for the Saturday outdoor cardio workout.

It’s time to start training now for your bucket list hiking and backpacking trips!

As a traveler myself, I’ve gone on trips that I wasn’t physically prepared for and been injured. Once I “came off the couch” to go rappelling with my expert canyoneering friends near Zion National Park. I wound up suspended in a waterfall with 200 feet of heavy wet rope hanging from my climbing harness – and pulled an oblique muscle (that’s an abdominal) trying to do a wet release into a thigh-deep pool of water. I felt that one for the next 2 months!

Tedi earned the rare distinction of becoming a Ragnarian Immortal by completing 12 Ragnar Relay Races in 12 different states in 2022. Is there a return policy?

Yes, all sales are final, non-refundable, non-returnable, and non-transferrable.

What if I’ve never participated in an exercise program before?

The instruction is very basic, however, we recommend seeing your physician prior to participating in any structured fitness training program. Please see Disclaimer, below.

I don’t have any gym equipment. Can I still benefit from the hiking training program?

Fitness for the Trails utilizes a variety of gym equipment, including dumbbells and barbells, to develop strength. We recommend that you 1) join a gym for a short period of time, or 2) invest in a minimum of home gym equipment. If you do not have access to a gym or own any gym equipment, we recommend training with our 21-Day Fitness Challenges for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Exercisers using the WebbWell App. Available for iOS and iPad on the Apple Store and coming soon to Google Play.

What format are the workouts?

The workouts are in video format with written copy for support. Also included is a 6-week overview PDF that you can print out that outlines the theme of each day of the week.

What kind of fitness programming is included?

Fitness for the Trails™ is comprehensive and includes a variety of evidence-based fitness methods including functional and compound strength training movements, yoga exercises, floor Pilates and cardiovascular training recommendations including treadmill and outdoor hiking and running.
